Question:

How can I run Allplan on a PC/laptopthat does not have a parallel port?



Answer:

There are three options:

  1. USB dongle:
    This incurs additional costs per dongle replaced. For detailed information, please contact your sales organization. You will be sent the dongle and invoice by mail. Only after you have received the USB dongle do you need to return the parallel dongle.

    To replace dongles, please contact Technical Support by email. In Germany:support.de@allplan.com. We are glad to forward your order.
    Please make sure that you tell us the seat you want to replace.
  2. Nemetschek Softlock:
    Since Version 2006, you have been able to switch to Nemetschek Softlock for free.
    Using Nemetschek Softlock, you can run Allplan without a hardlock (= dongle).
    After the switch, you can use trial licenses offered by Nemetschek to get to know other modules. These licenses are limited in time (usually 30 days).
    However, you can no longer transfer licenses to a different computer by switching the dongle. The required procedure is described in the FAQ entitled "Transferring NemSLock licenses temporarily", which you can find in the Serviceplus portal:

    By switching, the user agrees to return the dongle within 30 days. Consequently, it only makes sense to switch if no other Nemetschek programs (PlanDesign, for example) are protected by the existing dongle and if you no longer work with earlier Allplan versions.

  3. License server:
    You can also use a license server to manage licenses.
    In this case, a local dongle or Softlock is not required. When you start Allplan, it retrieves a license from a license pool.
    The license server is available as a Nemetschek Softlock server (V2006 or later) or as a hardlock license server with a USB dongle.

    We cannot do anything without your feedback!
  • Regarding points 1 and 2: Please make sure that you tell us the seat you want to replace.
  • USB to parallel adapters are usually not suitable for attaching Allplan dongles, which are intended for parallel ports, to USB ports.
