How can I model cranked bars in column reinforcement using Allplan Engineering?

Context/Information:
I am working on column reinforcement where the bars need to be slightly bent in the overlapping (lap) zone. I want practical advice or step-by-step guidance on how to draw these cranked bars in Allplan, ensuring correct placement, bending, and overlap without causing clashes with other reinforcement. Any tips or recommended workflow for handling this in Allplan would be appreciated.

Hi brijesh_borad,

your question regarding cranked bars can, in principle, be implemented using the standard workflow for 3D reinforcement.
As a general guideline I would do the following:

- You have a model together with at least one plan view and one section (so that all three dimensions X/Y/Z are covered by the two views)
- Using the “Freeform” command, you can create the cranked bar in the section view (you must be familiar with and apply the regulations of your country yourself; in Germany, the minimum crank ratio is 1:12)
- Next, I would create an overall extraction and refine the bar using point modification (this can also be done at a later stage)
- You then place this bar using individual placement in the plan view
- You can now also rotate this bar by 45° inward in the plan view (depending on how you plan the lap splice)
- Afterwards, rotate this bar four times about the column centerline
- I would also recommend to add constructional links/ stirrups so that the site team can check the installed reinforcement in the splice region

Makes sense?

Hi,

for definition of cranked bending shapes you can also use the following workflow:

-bending shape: freeform
-sketch the the form using 1. standard segment; 2. cranked section (choose it in preview); 3. standard section (from bottom of column to top...)
-correct the geometry of cranked segment 2/3 with button (...) to the required values

very easy...

In the end place the bars with "individual placement", then rotate and/ or mirror them as Kai described it very well.

Have fun!
