Trouble in adding objects to selection with selection rectangle.

Hello, new user and I understand that there are several filters to select the desired objects, so I am wondering if what I'm trying to achieve is not possible by design or there is some kind of bug.

If I have used selection rectangle once to select some objects and then I try to add objects to the previous selection by holding the Ctrl button and begin to drag a new rectangle (no matter if it is from left to right or the opposite), the rectangle will not be completed by releasing the LMB (the selection rectangle stays active) thus I cannot select additional objects. Ctrl + Left-clicking works fine.
