[Frage] [QUESTION] Workgroup Manager, how to work proprely

Schlagworte:

Welcome everyone,

Lately we have decided in our office to conduct project in Workgroup Manager. It is quite big one for us, because at least 4 people are working constantly on it. We were satisfied creating model, everything was quite smooth and consistent. Nevertheless when we started with reinforcement many problem occured, Could you please tell me how to solve them? I have read whole instruction for WorkgroupManager and there was no prompts how to solve problems like we have:

1. The program performance is low, everything works much slower than it used to. We have very good computer staff and LAN connection. Computers are LAN-connected with stationary server with speed of ~100Mbit/s where the project is stored.
Is there any way to boost the performance (in software or hardware)?

2. We do not know if we work properly, because one person can block another, when doing associated views or modifying them. I mean when the one person has model turned on modify mode, no body else is able to:
a)change a simple setting in view
b)make a new view
c)even move the view frame etc.
How to use the Workgroup Manager properly? Because I guess that it is not the way it is supposed to work.

3. I have read the instruction as I mentioned before and there was something that before ordering the WKM license found very useful - the Access rights and data protection.
Now, when we actually have the license we do not find it useful at all, I hope because we simply do not understand it well.
Previously I thought that we will be able to block the rights of modifying the drawning file, so the person cannot edit model itself however is still possible to generate associated views... And now it seems that the layer is blocked completely and I almost see no use on it.
We need something that won't permit assigned person to edit model, but the person should be able to create views - is there any way to achive it?

I will be very thankful for help!
If you are not able to help me, please tell me where to ask these questions. They are very vital for our project, please.

Hi!

This is my suggestion: if you want to work efficiently with reinforcement, forget reference files... There is nothing wrong with your workflow as it is suggested by Allplan.

Our workflow is following:
1. Architectural model is transformed to 3D solids into empty drawing file (only the elements, needed for a specific reinforcement plan - usually vertical elements of current story + horizontal elements beneath and above + vertical elements above the slab) - there is a nice function for it.
2. Create associative views an reinforcement in that newly created file.
3. when changes come - delete the 3D Model using filters (usually Layer-filter) and repeat step 1.

Drawback is that you have many 3D models in a project, so this is no BIM solution.

But V2019 will bring something new regarding the Views and Sections and your problem should be solved.
