Which graphics cards are recommended for Allplan?



Answer:


Follow this link to see a list of the AMD/ATI & NVidia graphics cards manufacturers that are CERTIFIED FOR ALLPLAN.
We have tested the OpenGL functionality and the animation performance of various Allplan modules with specially prepared data with each of the cards available.

The tested drivers can be found on the homepage of the individual manufacturer. The driver versions that were used in the tests are included in the tables so that you can compare the data. However, we strongly recommend that you always installthe current driver of the manufacturer.

Additional information:

Allplan 2011 was revised completely for accelerated graphical representation.
To guarantee full performance support for Allplan 2011 and later, please check that your graphics cards meet the hardware requirements for DirectX 10 & OpenGL 2.0 (chip-based). In addition, you need to install the current drivers. Allplan will automatically switch to the conventional drawing method when it starts and finds old graphics cards that do not meet the requirements stated above.

Question:

I installed Allplan with Workgroup Manager on a new computer for the first time. When I start Allplan, I get the following message: The user profile "DOMAIN\user name" was not found. Temporarily, the profile of local will be used.
Therefore, I cannot access any project. What can I do?



Answer:

You have logged in to the computer with a new Windows user who does not yet exist in Workgroup Manager administration of Allplan.
You need to add this new user to Workgroup Manager. To do this, log in as the administrator to the computer or use a different computer where a user has administrator privileges for Workgroup Manager.

Services application -> Workgroup Manager -> Administrate users -> right-click -> Create user

For the "user name", you can enter any Allplan user name, which can be up to 8 characters long.
For the "Windows user name", you must enter the name the user uses for login.
Important: If the user uses a domain for login, you must add it to the "Windows user name", for example, DOMAIN\user.


There is one Allplan administrator and any number of normal Allplan users.
A Windows user with any login name becomes an Allplan administrator if you go to "User group" and
select "Administrator"on the dropdown menu. Using this approach, you can also assign administration privileges to existing users.


You must enter the email address and the password only if the user is notpart of the workgroup but needs access to online projects (Workgroup Online).


Important: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to close the dialog box and the user overview respectively.



Note:

After you have created the user as an Allplan user, do not forget to assign the relevant projects to this user. Otherwise, this user is not allowed to edit the projects.

Question:

I can neither check in nor check out the computer.
When I try to check in the computer, the following error message appears: “The registry entries are not correct!” How can I correct this error?


Answer:

There is a hidden file on the server. This file causes the problem, which is probably related to user rights or user account control.

You have to change the settings directly on the server, that is so say, you have to use the folder options to show all hidden folders and files.

1. Open the central file storage folder on the server. There is a subordinate folder called
NET. This folder contains the computer_name.out file. Here, computer_name is the name of the computer that is checked out.
Delete this file.

2. Open the shared folder (for example, C:\Nemdata\Allplan) on the computer that is checked out.
Allplan 2015 and earlier: Delete the Net.ChkOutfolder.
Allplan 2016 and later: Delete the NETfolder.

Now the computer is checked in again. Consequently, you can move projects to this computer
or check it out once more.


Note:

If the computer or the projects are still red, you have to fix the projects.

To fix the projects:
Services application -> Workgroup Manager -> Administer projects and computers

Do the following:

Ctrl + right-click computer
-> can be checked in
Ctrl + right-click project-> can be unlocked

Repeat this step to unlock every project on the computer.
When you have finished, close the dialog box and open it again to update it.
Now everything should be correct.

Question:

How can I change the cache path for Allplan Share?

Note:

You do this at your own risk.
We strongly recommend that you clarify all issues in advance.
Always copy a file before you change it.
Before you change registry entries, back up the registry key that you want to modify. To do this, export the key by selecting File - Export in the Registry Editor.

Answer:

Allplan Share temporarily saves the project data in the path of the local file storage, which you defined when you installed Allplan.
You can see the path of the local file storage folder in the Services application.
If this folder is centrally on a server for all Allplan workstations:
To avoid replication conflicts that might occur when several users work on the same project data, you must change the path settings for each user so that this folder is locally on the user’s computer running Allplan.

Before you start, close Allplan, making sure that you do not lose any data.

  1. Go to a local drive (C or D) of the computer running Allplan and create the new "Local data” folder with the "Allplan” subfolder (for example, C:\Local data\Allplan).
  2. Start the Windows Registry Editor as the administrator (start - run - regedit).
  3. Go to the left column of Registry Editor and open the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nemetschek\Allplan\2018.0\InstallRoot. If Allplan 2019 or a newer Allplan version is installed, “2019.0“ or the newer version replaces “2018.0” in the path.
  4. Go to the right column of Registry Editor and double-click theLocalDataDrivekey. Specify the drive that you selected for local file storage (for example, C:). Then click OK to confirm the change. This applies the change.
  5. Then, go to the right column of Registry Editor again and double-click theLocalDataPathkey. Specify the path that you defined for local file storage (for example,\Local Data\Allplan). Then click OK to confirm the change. This applies the change. The result should look like this:
  6. Close the Registry Editor. Allplan now uses the new path for the cache of Allplan Share.
  7. Start Allplan and select the Allplan Share project to load the necessary project data into the new cache.

Does Allplan create backup files (*.bak)?
How can I use these files?



Answer:

Allplan creates backup files when you do the following:

  1. Copy, Move Elements between Documents …
    Allplan creates a backup file of the destination drawing file or layout.
  2. Deleting drawing files and layoutsin the "Open on a project-specific basis" dialog box
    If you have selected "Create backup copies of drawing files", Allplan creates a backup file of the drawing file or layout.
  3. Importing data to drawing files
    If you have selected "Create backup copies of drawing files", Allplan creates a backup file of the drawing file.


Note on points 2 and 3:

To select the "Create backup copies of drawing files" option, click
Tools -> Options -> Desktop environment -> Save/load area (until V2009 Global Options -> Miscellaneous -> Autosave, Backup)->Create backup copies of drawing files.


Restoring:

If need be, you can restore the original drawing file or layout.
Make a note of the drawing file number or layout number and determine the corresponding project folder as follows:
Services application -> Service -> Hotline Tools -> wopro

Open this folder in Windows Explorer.

Rename the corresponding drawing file "tb000001.ndw" "tb000001.ndw.old" or the corresponding layout "pb000001.000" "pb000001.000.old.", for example.
Delete the bak extension from the corresponding bak file.

Example 1:

You have inadvertently copied the wrong elements to drawing file 4711.
1st step: exit the project in Allplan.
2nd step: delete file tb004711.ndw or rename it tb004711.ndw.old.
3rd step: find file tb004711.ndw.bak and rename it tb004711.ndw.

Example 2:

You have inadvertently copied the wrong elements to layout 815.
1st step: exit the project in Allplan.
2nd step: delete file pb000815.000 or rename it pb000815.000.old.
3rd step: find file pb000815.000.bak and rename it pb000815.000.



Note:

These backup files can considerably increase the volume of data to be backed up. So it is a good idea to delete the .bak files you no longer require before you start backing up data. To delete the .bak files, you can select the Services application and click Utilities -> Delete temporary files.

Question:

What license issues do I need to consider when upgrading from Allplan 2017/2018/2019 to Allplan 2020?


Answer:

Installation options during Setups

First-time installation with copying data (default): this option copies and converts the data of the previous version to the new version. You can choose to transfer projects, too. This option does not change the previous version.
Upgrade: this option also transfers the data to the new version. However, you can no longer use the previous version after upgrading.
First-time installation: this option installs Allplan 2020 parallel to the version you are running. However, your data will neither be transferred nor converted. You can find more information in the help. Just press F1 during Setup.


Depending on the licensing system you use, you need to consider different points.

1. Upgrade Allplan 2020 – stand-alone workstation

The license for Allplan 2020 updates automatically. Start Setup and follow the instructions displayed. When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select Use active license. Follow the installation instructions.

Note:
The licenses only update automatically when you upgrade. To install Allplan 2020 on a new computer, please read on connect.allplan.com/license within the menu item Information on Installation and Licensing the instructions Transferring license to a new computer.
You can find your Product Key in Allplan Connect as usual. Go to: connect.allplan.com/license


2. Upgrading Allplan 2020 with a license server


Start by updating your license(s) at the license server. After this, upgrade the clients. To do this, start the License Settings program on the server. Click License Activation on the left, and then click the license you want to update. Click Update License.

After updating your license(s) you can upgrade Allplan at the clients. Start Allplan Setup and follow the instructions displayed. The license server license will be detected automatically on the network. When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select Use active license. Follow the installation instructions.

NOTE: If your license server displays a detailed version number (build ID) directly in the lower left corner of the program License Settings, it is usually compatible with the new version and does not need to be updated. You only need to update the license(s).
If you still want to update your license server, download the software for the license server from the Allplan Connect service portal. Detailed instructions can be found at connect.allplan.com/license under the menu item Information on installation and Licensing' and the instructions 'Updating license server and licenses'.

Note: You can update the licenses only at a license server you have already installed. If you want to switch to Allplan 2020 and move the license server to a new server, please read on

Downloading licenses from Allplan Connect

You can also obtain your activation codes for Allplan 2020 IBD in the Allplan Connect service portal.
To do this, click Profile > License Management.

You can only use this function as an administrator.

Question:

How can I install additional Allplan workstations on an existing network (with or without Workgroup Manager)?



Answer:

Before you install the additional workstations, find out the path to the central file storage folder on a computer where Allplan has already been installed. Open the Services application on this computer. The Services application window shows the path to the central file storage folder.

Enter this path when Setup prompts you to specify the central file storage folder.
Select "Minimum" for the Setup type.



Notes:

  • Make sure the version you are installing is the same as the one installed on the other workstations.
  • In addition, make sure all workstations are running either with Workgroup Manager or without Workgroup Manager. To find out whether Workgroup Manager is installed or not, open the Services application and check the menus: if you can see the Workgroup Manager menu, Workgroup Manager is installed.
  • Installing additional workstations does not affect the data (projects, ...) in the central file storage folder.
  • If you add new users to a new Allplan workstation, do not forget to add them to the Workgroup Manager, too.
  • Version 2014 and earlier: if one of the computers also serves as the Allplan server, you cannot use the approach described above to find out the path to the central file storage folder.
    In this case, you will see the path to a local folder instead of the central file storage folder.
    Use a different computer to find out the path to the central file storage folder.

Question:

I want to update the operating system of my computer. As far as I know, I have to return the license. How should I proceed?


Answer:

If you activated the license online by entering a Product Key, you can return the Product Key and reactivate it later. You can return and activate the license only if the computers have Internet access. The computer where you want to return or activate the license does not have to be online all the time. It is enough if it is online while you are returning or activating the license.

Use your computer to return the license before you switch to another operating system.

Returning a license
To return a license in online mode

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
  • Write down the Product Key for the license you are returning.
  • Click License activationon the left. Then click the license you want to return.
  • Click Return license.


You can now switch to the new operating system.
After having done this, you reactivate the license for the new system.

Activating the license:

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
  • Click License activationon the left.
  • Enter your Product Key.
  • Click Activate license.



Notes:

You can also find your Product Key in Allplan Connect. Go to http://connect.allplan.com/license
Click Profile -> License administration.
Only administrators can use this function.

Question:

I have installed a Windows update. Now the license is no longer available.
When I start Allplan, I can see the following error message: "This license is no longer available" or "CmActLicense runtime system is not installed!" How can I restore the license?




Answer:

CodeMeter Control Center always saves the license to a container with the number Allplan GmbH 128-XXXXXXX on your computer.

Start CodeMeter Control Center:
Open the Windows start menu and select CodeMeter -> CodeMeter Control Center. As an alternative, open Search by clicking the Search button on the Start screen and enter Codemeter.
Check the Licenses area to see whether there is the following container: Allplan GmbH 128-XXXXXXX.
The container must have a blue-green symbol and not a red symbol


Work through the following steps:

Step 1 Restart CodeMeterService
The local Windows service, which is used by licensing, must be running.

Restart this service:
CodeMeter Control Center -> Process -> Start CodeMeter Service
If the service is running, stop it and restart it.

Now check whether the Allplan GmbH 128-XXXXXXX container is displayed.

If this has solved your problem, all you need to do is exclude Codemeter from virus scans as described in the following document: https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20151209133620.html

If the container is still not visible, go to step 2.

Question:

How can I install a hotfix?


Answer:

Allplan automatically downloads hotfixes and installs them the next time you start Allplan.
To define settings in Allplan, open the ? menu and select Update Allplan.

Click the Find now button to find updates and install them the next time you start Allplan.

You can also download hotfixes manually.

The current hotfix and previous hotfixes are available for download.
Before you can download data, you must log in to Allplan Connect


2. Installing hotfixes downloaded manually

You can install the hotfixes downloaded by double-clicking the file. Make sure both Allplan and the Services application are closed.
Hotfixes are installed one after the other in the correct order. In other words, you must download and install Hotfix 2014-1-1 before you can install Hotfix 2014-1-2.


3. Working with Workgroup Manager

If you work with Workgroup Manager and another user has already downloaded the hotfix, you can see the following message:

There are currently no updates available.

In tis case, the hotfix is in the Downloadfolder on the server. In Allplan select ?-> Update Allplan. Choose one of the following options to install the hotfix the next time you start Allplan:

  • Install updates automatically-> the next time you start Allplan, the program will install the hotfix without asking you again.
  • Download updates, install manually (recommended)-> the next time you start Allplan, a dialog box opens and you can decide whether you want to install the hotfix.


The default setting is
'Download updates, install manually (recommended)'.
