Nemetschek Softlock - first steps

Question:

I have installed Allplan using the temporary Softlock license ("customer#_seat_psd.nslock") and "Trial" is displayed for its status in the License Manager.
How can I register this license?



Answer:

You use License Manager to create a registration request and send it by email to register@nemetschek.de.
In response, you get a final license file. Installing this license removes the lime limit.
Below is a description of the necessary steps.



Notes:

  • Using the temporary license, you can start Allplan as a trial version. You can work with Allplan without any restrictions for 30 days.
    After expiration of this period, Allplan starts as a viewer only. However, you can still request and install the final license.
  • When running Windows Vista, start Nemetschek License Manager as the administrator:
    Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager
    Click "License Manager" with the right mouse button and choose "Run as administrator" on the shortcut menu.




How to proceed:

1. Request a license registered for your computer

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start - (All) Programs - Nemetschek - Nemetschek Softlock 2006 - License Manager(or Services application -> Utilities -> License -> License Manager (NemSLock)).

    When running Windows Vista, start License Manager as the system administrator: click Start - (All) Programs - Nemetschek - Nemetschek Softlock 2006 - License Manager.
    Click License Managerwith the right mouse button. On the shortcut menu, click Run as administrator.
  2. Select the seat you want to register so that it is highlighted in blue.

    Note:You can only register seats you have purchased. If you can see only seats with numbers between 90 and 99 (= trial licenses for temporary use), you first need to install the personal license for temporary use.
  3. Click License requestat top left.

    The License Request Wizardstarts. The Welcome to the license request wizarddialog box provides information on the steps that follow.
  4. Click Next >.
    The Customer detailsdialog box opens.

    Note: Editing customer details requires administrator privileges. If you do not have these privileges, you will see a corresponding message. Cancel NemSLock License Manager and start again by selecting the Run as administrator option on the shortcut menu.
  5. Enter the necessary details:

    - If the Client IDhas eight zeros (00000000) and the CD Keyhas eight capital F's (FFFFFFFF), you selected the Trial license for temporary useoption when you installed Allplan.
    In this case, install the personal license for temporary use before you create the registration request.

    - If Client IDand CD Keydo not match the numbers printed on your delivery note (for example, typing errors, small letters and capital letters mixed up), you can enter Client ID and CD Key manually.

    - Fill out all the fields.

    Make sure you enter your email address correctly, because registered licenses and replies to status queries of license will be sent to the address you specify here.

    Note:Check the entries for Client ID(customer number) and CD Key , making sure these numbers are the same as those printed on the delivery note you received from Allplan. The CD Keyusually consists of the numbers 0 to 9 and the capital letters A to F.

    Tip: You can also find these numbers in the personal license file for temporary use (*_psd.nslock). Open the license file in an editor and scroll down to the end of the file. You can then copy the license codes displayed after CUSTOMERand CDKEYto the Clipboard and paste them into the appropriate boxes.
  6. Click Next >.
  7. Select the Program, Versionand Seatand click Next >.

    Note: If the Client IDis invalid (for example, when you use a trial license) you cannot confirm the dialog box by clicking OK. Instead, you will see a corresponding message.
  8. Specify how to send the registration file and click Next >.

    Start email program ...
    The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens your default email program. The program automatically attaches the registration file to the email and enters register (please no spam) @ (please no spam) nemetschek.defor the address.

    Save the registration file ...
    The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens the folder with the registration file in Windows Explorer. Now you can use all the options provided by Windows Explorer: for example, you can attach the file to an email, copy it to a computer with Internet access and so on.

    In addition, you can see the data that were written to the registration file.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Click Close to exit NemSLock License Manager.


You will receive a reply by email within a few minutes. This email provides information on the registration process and usually includes the registered license file.

Note: The registered license file is generated by an automated system. Consequently, any additional comments in incoming emails are not read. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Allplan directly.



2. Install the license file

Shortly after you sent the registration request to 'register@nemetschek.de' as described in step 1, the final license file will be sent to the email address you specified in the registration request.
Install this license file as follows:

  • Save the license file to any folder on the hard disk.
    If the license comes as a zip file, extract it.
  • Next, install the license file by double-clicking it ("customer#_seat.nslock").
    Confirm the dialog box.
  • As an alternative, you can also use License Manager to install the license file (Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager).
    Click "Install - Install license" at top left in Nemetschek SoftLock License Manager and select the license by clicking "Browse...".
    Click "Finish" to complete the installation process.


Note:

Do not use the same computer to register several license files for different seats. This would connect the seats. You cannot separate the seats again without the help of technical support.

How to handle licenses when upgrading to Allplan 2023

What license issues do I need to consider when upgrading from Allplan 2020/2021/2022 to Allplan 2023?


Answer:

Installation options during Setups

Upgrade - program update with transfer of all project data, office and user settings.
The existing Allplan installation is upgraded to version 2023. If several Allplan versions are installed, only the latest version will be suggested for upgrade.  Projects, office and user settings are automatically transferred from 2020/2021/2022 to Allplan 2023. Allplan 2020/2021/2022 is then no longer available.

New installation without transfer of project data, office and user settings:
Existing Allplan installations remain unchanged. Office and user settings are not transferred to version 2023. You can import projects after installation using the following Allplan function:
New project, open-> Import projects.

New installation with transfer of office and user settings:
Existing Allplan installations remain unchanged. Office and user settings are automatically transferred from 2020/2021/2022 to version 2023. In the case of multiple installed Allplan versions, only the most current version is suggested for transfer. If you have installed with a central file store, make sure that you create a folder with a suitable share on your central file store (server) beforehand. This folder can then be selected as the "central file storage folder" during setup. You can import projects after installation with the following Allplan function:
Project new, open-> Import projects.



Depending on the licensing system you use, you need to consider different points.

There is no license request when installing Allplan 2023. Therefore, make sure in advance that your licenses are also suitable for this version, e.g. by purchase or a valid service contract.


1. Upgrade Allplan 2023 – stand-alone workstation

Your license for Allplan 2023 will be updated after installation, when you start Allplan 2023 for the first time. Start Allplan 2023 and you will be prompted to update the license. Select "Update now" here. The license is updated online. You can then start Allplan 2023 directly or close the license window.

Note: To install Allplan 2023 on a new computer, please read on connect.allplan.com/license within the menu item Information on Installation and Licensing the instructions Transferring license to a new computer.

You can find your Product Key in Allplan Connect as usual. Go to: connect.allplan.com/license

2. Upgrading Allplan 2023 with a license server

Start by updating your license(s) at the license server. After this, upgrade the clients. To do this, start the License Settings program on the server. Click License Activation on the left, and then click the license you want to update. Click Update License.
After the license(s) update, you can perform the Allplan upgrade installation on the client computers.

NOTE: Check the version of your installed license server on the server. Starting with the license server version 2016-1-4, the detailed version status (Build-ID) is displayed directly in the lower left corner of the License Settings program.
At least version 1.1196.xxx.xxx should be displayed here. If an older Build ID is displayed, then you still have an older license server in use. In any case, please update your license server. Download the software for the license server from the Allplan Connect service portal. Detailed instructions can be found at connect.allplan.com/license under the menu item Information on installation and Licensing' and the instructions 'Updating license server and licenses'.


Note: You can update the licenses only at a license server you have already installed. If you want to switch to Allplan 2023 and move the license server to a new server, please read on connect.allplan.com/license within the menu item Information on Installation and Licensing the instructions Moving license server to a new server.

Downloading licenses from Allplan Connect

You can also obtain your activation codes for Allplan 2022 IBD in the Allplan Connect service portal.
To do this, click Profile > License Management.
You can only use this function as an administrator.

2. Upgrading Allplan 2022 with a license server


Start by updating your license(s) at the license server. After this, upgrade the clients. To do this, start the License Settings program on the server. Click License Activation on the left, and then click the license you want to update. Click Update License.

After the license(s) update, you can perform the Allplan upgrade installation on the client computers.


NOTE:

License server - borrowing licenses temporarily

Question:

How can I borrow a license for a client temporarily from the license server?



Answer:

Hotfix 2016-1-4 enables you to temporarily borrow (import) licenses from the license server.
If you want to use this function, note the following points:


Borrowing licensesrequires the following steps. Make sure you do not change the order of these steps. Otherwise, you cannot borrow licenses.

  1. Install Allplan 2016-1-4on the client.
  2. Go to the server and update the software for the license server to 2016-1-4(Build-ID 1.614.x.x ).
  3. Go to the license server and update the licenses.


You can find a detailed description of each step in the following section.

1. Install Allplan 2016-1-4
Make sure all clients are equipped with Allplan 2016-1-4 or later.
If this is not so, install a full update or a hotfix. You can do this manually or use auto-update.

To install manually
Download the current hotfix(es) manually. To do this, log in to Allplan Connect https://connect.allplan.com/de/support/downloads.htmlad go to Support - Downloads - Latest Hotfixes.
You can also download the hotfixes from our FTP server.
To access our FTP server, you require a current Windows operating system. Do the following:

Enter the following address in Windows Explorer (do not use Internet Explorer!):

2. Update the license server 2016-1-4(Build-ID 1.614.x.x )
Not only Allplan but also the license server requires the new version. Check the version of the license server. You can find detailed information on the version (Build-ID) at bottom left in the License Settingsprogram.
Make sure the version of the license server you use is at least 1.614.x.x. If you cannot see the Build-ID, you work with an older license server.
If this is so, update the license server. Download the software for the license server from Allplan Connect or from our FTP server:

Start the new License Server Setupon the server or computer you use as the license server. Right-click the *.exe file and select 'Run as administrator' on the shortcut menu.

  • Click Install.
  • Click Exit.

3. Update the licenses
You must update your license before you can use this new function for borrowing licenses.

To update a license on the license server

  • Start the License Settingsprogram on the server.
  • Click License activationon the left. Then click the license you want to update so that this license is highlighted in blue.
  • As you can see, the 'Update license' function is now available.
  • Click Update license.
  • If your license includes configurations for several seats, you must update each license separately.




To borrow a license, do the following:

Notes:
You cannot borrow licenses on the license server. You can do this only at the clients.
You can only borrow and return a license if the client is connected with the license server.
Computers that are not on the company network must use a VPN connection to access the server.

At the client:

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings.
  • Click License selectionon the left. Then click the license you want to borrow so that this license is highlighted in blue.
  • If this license is a license of the license server, the Todaybutton in the 'Borrow license for:' area is no longer grayed out.
  • This button always shows the preset period of time. The default setting is Today.This button is divided into two parts. If you want to change the period of time, click the arrownext to Today. You can now choose from various options.
    Note: When you select 'Today', the license will be available again for all Allplan users on the server tomorrow.
    When you select a number of days, borrowing will always be valid for 24 hours. For example, you borrow a license for 1 day and borrowing starts at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, the license will not be available on the server until 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
  • Click Today(selected period of time) to borrow the license immediately.


You can immediately see the borrowed license in the license selection below your computer name. Click the blue information button to get details about this license. For example, you can see when the borrowed license will automatically be returned to the server.

  • If you want to return the license to the server before the time period expires, click the license again so that it is highlighted in blue. The Return licensebutton is now available. Click Return licenseto immediately return the selected license to the server.

Question:

I purchased the license server. How can I install and configure the license server?



Answer:

Allplan is using since version 2016 a new protection system. Licensing is based on CodeMeter by Wibu Systems AG since then. You can no longer use NemSLock Server with Allplan 2016 and higher.

Allplan requires a Product Key. Using this key, you can activate your license online. The Product Key is a unique, 26-digit character string. You can use it to activate a license for Allplan.
You can find your Product Key in Allplan Connect. Go to http://connect.allplan.com/license
Note: The license is downwards compatible til version Allplan 2016-1-4 even if a higher version is displayed.



To install the license server, download the software for the license server from Allplan Connect


The Wibu license server is part of the CodeMeter driver, which is installed along with Allplan. If you have already installed Allplan on the license server, you do not have to install additional software. But you can also install the license server separately; you do not have to install Allplan.
In any case, install and activate the license server before you install Allplan on the clients.

You can activate a license in online mode only if you have ...

  • Internet access
  • a Product Key
  • a license server license; you cannot use other licenses with the license server.




Installing the license server

  • You must install the license server on a 64-bit Windows system.
  • Start License Server Setup on the computer you want to use as the license server.
  • Click Install.
  • Start the license server by starting the License Settings program. Go to the License activation area, enter your Product Key and click Activate license.
  • If you have more licenses for the license server, enter the respective Product Keys and activate the licenses.
  • Afterwards, start CodeMeter Control Center.

To do this, use the Windows start menu and select CodeMeter -> CodeMeter Control Center. As an alternative, open Search by clicking the Search button on the Start screen: enter Codemeter and press ENTER. A dialog box opens. Click WebAdmin at bottom right.

Or
Enter Localhost:22350in the address bar of your browser.

  • Select Configuration -> Server -> Access server in the Network server area and click Activate.
  • Click Apply.



Configuring the license server (optional)

You can use the CodeMeter WebAdmin application to administer the license server.
To start and stop the license server service, you can use CodeMeter Control Center.

  • CodeMeter Control Center -> Action -> Start or Stop CodeMeter Service


Access control
By default, all users on the LAN, who have installed the CodeMeter driver, can use a license from the license server.

  • Basic access control: you can enter a list of client computer names or IP addresses that are allowed to access the license server.
  • Advanced access control: you can specify global access rules (for all licenses) to control access to the licenses.


License tracking
To activate license tracking, you have to set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CodeMeter\Server\CurrentVersion\LogLicenseTracking registry entry to 1 and restart CodeMeter Service.

After having activated this key, you can use CodeMeter WebAdmin to create a report showing details about the licenses used over a specific period of time. To do this, open CodeMeter WebAdmin and go to the 'Server' - 'License Tracking' page. Select the period of time and the license for which you want to generate a report. Then click 'Create report'. If you click a single bar, you will get detailed analyses per day or per hour.

CodeMeter WebAdmin saves the reports to C:\ProgramData\CodeMeter\Logs.



Installing and configuring clients

Usually the license server license will be detected automatically in the network.
Install Allplan on the clients. There is no license druing setup necessary.
Follow the installation instructions.

  • You do not need to activate the clients.


Allplan automatically finds the license server on the local network. If you have not selected a license, Allplan automatically selects the first available license.

After having installed Allplan on the clients, you can use the 'License Settings' dialog boxto check and configure license selection.
Services application -> Utilities -> License settings

Areas:

  • License activation: this area is not relevant to clients taking their license from the license server.
  • License selection: use this section if you get the license from a license server or if you have several licenses and you want to select the preferred license.
  • Start as a viewer: click this button if you want to start Allplan as a viewer.



License selection

You can see the names of the available licenses with their seat numbers.
The 'Available' column indicates how many licenses are still available. Click the dropdown arrow to see a list of users currently working with a license.

Priority:
Select the check box in front of a license to select this license as a favorite. You can mark as many licenses as you want. Allplan will then prefer these licenses. Click to select one ore more licenses Allplan is not to use. If you do not select any license or if you have selected several favorites, Allplan will automatically use the first free license it finds.

Find license server automatically:
When you select this option, Allplan automatically detects a license server on the LAN. In some cases, such as VPN connections, Allplan may not be able to detect a server automatically. In this case, you can enter the server manually (see Additional server name).
Note: Only the Windows administrator can change this option.

Additional server name:
If 'Find license server automatically' is not active or Allplan has not automatically found a license server, you can manually enter the name or the IP address of the server. If 'Find license server automatically' is active, you can enter an additional server. After having entered the server name, click 'Update' to see the licenses of the license server. Use semicolons to separate several server names.


Note:

You can find detailed information on the license server in the License Settings help (F1 key).

Allplan communicates with the license server via TCP/IP. By default, communication is via Port 22350 unless you change the port in CodeMeter WebAdmin.

If a firewall is active on your computer, you must enable port 22350 for TCP and UDP. If the firewall filters in an application-specific manner, you have to enable the CodeMeter.exe license server service. You can find this service in the %Program Files (x86)%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin Windows folder. Define the CodeMeter.exe service as an exception in the firewall. Some anti-virus programs also include firewall functions. If you are not sure, contact the manufacturer of the anti-virus program.


Fixing NemSLock after Windows update

Question:

After I updated Windows (8 to 8.1; 8.1 to 10), Allplan only starts as a viewer. What can I do?


Answer:

Windows update corrupts Nemetschek Softlock License Manager.
To fix Allplan, do the following:

You need the latest installation package for your version.
You can download this package from our webdrive

You can find the installation packages in the following path:
Allplan/"Version"/Installationspaket/

Copy the zip file to the local computer and unzip the file.
Start the installation and run an update use our temporary license file.

You can download the temporary license from Allplan Connect:

After the installation, you can open License Manager again (Services application -> Utilities -> License -> License Manager). Next, install the temporary license (*_psd.nslock): "Install - Install license"
Note: the status of the temporary license is set to "Expired".

Next, create a new registration request.
To generate a registration request, do the following:

Open License Manager (Services application -> Utilities -> License -> License Manager). Select the license entry for your seat and click "Request license".
Follow the instructions displayed on screen. Complete the form. Do not forget to enter your email address.

Check that the Client ID and CD Key are correct.

Send the registration request to: register@nemetschek.de.

Configuring the license server (optional)

To activate license tracking, you have to set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CodeMeter\Server\CurrentVersion\LogLicenseTracking registry entry to 1 and restart CodeMeter Service.

After having activated this key, you can use CodeMeter WebAdmin to create a report showing details about the licenses used over a specific period of time. To do this, open CodeMeter WebAdmin and go to the 'Server' - 'License Tracking' page. Select the period of time and the license for which you want to generate a report. Then click 'Create report'. If you click a single bar, you will get detailed analyses per day or per hour.

CodeMeter WebAdmin saves the reports to C:\ProgramData\CodeMeter\Logs.



Installing and configuring clients

Note for Version 2016: Install at least Allplan 2016-1-4 on the clients.

The license server license will be detected automatically on the network.
Install Allplan on the clients. When you are prompted to select the license file, click Use active license. Follow the installation instructions.

  • You do not need to activatethe clients.


Allplan automatically finds the license server on the local network. If you have not selected a license, Allplan automatically selects the first available license.

After having installed Allplan on the clients, you can use the 'License Settings' dialog boxto configure license selection.
Services application -> Utilities -> License settings

Areas:

  • License activation: this area is not relevant to clients taking their license from the license server.
  • License selection: use this section if you get the license from a license server or if you have several licenses and you want to select the preferred license.
  • Start as a viewer: click this button if you want to start Allplan as a viewer.



License selection

You can see the names of the available licenses with their seat numbers.
The 'Available' column indicates how many licenses are still available. Click the dropdown arrow to see a list of users currently working with a license.

Priority:
Select the check box in front of a license to select this license as a favorite. You can mark as many licenses as you want. Allplan will then prefer these licenses. Click to select one ore more licenses Allplan is not to use. If you do not select any license or if you have selected several favorites, Allplan will automatically use the first free license it finds.

Find license server automatically:
When you select this option, Allplan automatically detects a license server on the LAN. In some cases, such as VPN connections, Allplan may not be able to detect a server automatically. In this case, you can enter the server manually (see Additional server name).
Note: Only the Windows administrator can change this option.

Additional server name:
If 'Find license server automatically' is not active or Allplan has not automatically found a license server, you can manually enter the name or the IP address of the server. If 'Find license server automatically' is active, you can enter an additional server. After having entered the server name, click 'Update' to see the licenses of the license server. Use semicolons to separate several server names.


Note:

You can find detailed information on the license server in the License Settings help (F1 key).

Allplan communicates with the license server via TCP/IP. By default, communication is via Port 22350 unless you change the port in CodeMeter WebAdmin.

If a firewall is active on your computer, you must enable port 22350 for TCP and UDP. If the firewall filters in an application-specific manner, you have to enable the CodeMeter.exe license server service. You can find this service in the %Program Files (x86)%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin Windows folder. Define the CodeMeter.exe service as an exception in the firewall. Some anti-virus programs also include firewall functions. If you are not sure, contact the manufacturer of the anti-virus program.

Allplan silent installation (Allplan 2017 and later)

Can I "automate" the installation of Allplan?


Answer:

You can install Allplan 2017 in silent mode. This installation mode is fully automatic; you do not need to enter anything. Silent installation is particularly useful if you want to install Allplan 2017 with the same settings on a large number of workstations on a network.

Requirements for installing in silent mode:

Pay attention to the different licensing types!

Licensing for stand-alone workstations:
Make sure you have not yet activated a license on the computer where you want to record silent installation. Use the Viewer option for recording.

After having installed all computers in silent mode, you must use the Product Key to activate the license locally on each computer.
To activate the license after installation:

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
  • Click License activationon the left.
  • Enter your Product Key.
  • Click Activate license.


Using a license server:

  • The clients take the licenses from a license server.
  • The license server is installed.
  • The license of the license server is activated.

Setup writes the license settings to the %AppData%\Nemetschek\Lic3.ini file.You must distribute this file to all computers.


Some more tips:

  • Before you start installing, unzip the Allplan installation package (for example, using the 7_Zip program). Make sure this package is in a folder that can be accessed by all clients you want to install.
  • Start the command prompt for running the setup program always as a local administrator. To do this, open the shortcut menu and select "Run as administrator". Make sure you always start the command prompt from the correct folder.
  • Setup will automatically install any Microsoft components required by Allplan such as Microsoft .NET-Framework or Microsoft Report Viewer without prompting you to confirm.




Preparing to install in silent mode

To record and run silent installation, you need the installation files of Allplan 2017.
Installing in silent mode involves three steps:

Creating the log file for installing in silent mode

Start by installing Allplan 2017 with the /r option on a typical workstation. During installation, Setup automatically writes all entries to a log file named setup.iss. You can then use this file to install the program on the other workstations.

Installing in silent mode

Next, install Allplan 2017 with the /s option on all other workstations. Installation is based on the setup.iss log file you created in the first step.

Checking the installation

Finally, you should check the setup.log file, which was created automatically during setup, to see whether everything was installed correctly.

Note: When installing in silent mode, Setup usually uses the same setup.iss file to install the program on all workstations. However, you can edit some settings of the setup.iss file if you want to adjust paths. You can find more information in the help; see Adjusting the setup.iss filehttp://help.allplan.com/Allplan/2017-0/1031/Allplan/index.htm#331.htm


To install Allplan in silent mode, do the following:

Install .NET 4.6
Silent setup requires you to install .NET 4.6 in advance. The reason for this is that you have to reboot the computer after installation of .NET 4.6. This reboot would interrupt silent installation.


After you have downloaded the installation files, you must unzip these files before you can use them to install in silent mode.

  • Unzip the zip file downloaded. This results in an .exe file (for example, Allplan 2017-0-5-cad.exe).
  • Then unzip this .exe file using an appropriate program (for example, 7_Zip) and save the resulting file to any folder. You can now use the command prompt to start Setup.exe for recording.



1. Sample installation:
Start by creating a record file. To do this, run setup with the settings you need. You only need to do this once.

Use the command prompt to start this installation with the "/r" option (for record):

To run the setup program, open the command prompt as a local administrator and type the following:
setup.exe /r

Setup starts and runs as usual.

Stand-alone license:
When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select the Use vieweroption.
License server:
When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select the Use active licenseoption.


Setup logs the entire installation process, writing everything to the setup.iss file.

If you want, you can change the name and folder of this file:

setup.exe /r /f1<folder>:\Setup.iss
For example,
setup.exe /r /f1c:\Setup.iss
This saves the file directly to C:\.

Be careful:
There must not be any blanks between "f1" and the folder!

Copy the setup.iss file to a folder that can be accessed by all clients you want to install. It is a good idea to copy this file to the folder with the Allplan installation files.

License server:
Copy the %AppData%\Nemetschek\Lic3.inifile to the %AppData%\Nemetschek folder of every client.
If you install Allplan on a client for the first time, you must create the Nemetschek folder in %AppData% first (for example, C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Roaming\Nemetschek).


2. Silent installation:
Make sure you can access the setup.iss file.

License server:
Make sure the Lic3.ini file is in the %AppData%\Nemetschek\ folder.


Setup logs the entire installation process again, writing everything to the setup.log file. You can find this file in the same folder as the setup.iss file. With the /f2 option, you can specify a different folder and file name for the setup.log file.

To start installing Allplan in silent mode on a client, open command prompt as a local administrator and type the following:

setup.exe /s /f1<folder>:\Setup.iss /f2<folder>:\Setup.log

For example,
setup.exe /s /f1c:\Setup.iss /f2c:\Setup.log
This saves the file directly to C:\.

Check the setup.log file to see whether everything has been installed correctly. The [ResponseResult] section should return the 'ResultCode=0' value.



Note:

If you have several licenses or license servers, select the required license for each client using the Services application - Utilities - License settings.

To borrow a license, do the following:

Notes:
You cannot borrow licenses on the license server. You can do this only at the clients.
You can only borrow and return a license if the client is connected with the license server.
Computers that are not on the company network must use a VPN connection to access the server.

At the client:

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings.
  • Click License selectionon the left. Then click the license you want to borrow so that this license is highlighted in blue.
  • If this license is a license server license, the Todayand Borrowbuttons in the 'Borrow license for:' area are no longer grayed out.
  • The Todaybutton always shows the preset period of time. The default setting is Today. If you want to change the period of time, click the Todaybutton. You can then choose from various options.
    Note: When you select 'Today', the license will be available again for all Allplan users on the server tomorrow.
    When you select a number of days, borrowing will always be valid for 24 hours. For example, you borrow a license for 1 day and borrowing starts at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, the license will not be available on the server until 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The same applies to selecting days on the calendar.
  • After having specified the correct period, click Borrowto borrow the license at once.


You can immediately see the borrowed license in the license selection below your computer name. Click the green information button to get details about this license. For example, you can see when the borrowed license will automatically be returned to the server.

  • If you want to return the license to the server before the time period expires, click the license again so that it is highlighted in blue. The Return licensebutton is now available. Click Return licenseto immediately return the selected license to the server.

  • If your license includes configurations for several seats, you must update each license separately.

How can I use a license server license outside the office (for example, when working with my own computer from home)?



Answer:

Computers that are not on the company network must use a VPN connection to access the server.
You can get licenses from the license server directly over the network or VPN.

Note the following points when you use VPN:
Communication with the license server is by TCP/IP via port 22350.
Make sure that the VPN connection does not switch to sleep mode. Otherwise, it is better to borrow a license by using VPN instead of getting the license directly from the server.
You can use only iPv4 for the VPN connection; iPv6 is not supported by Allplan.
The firewall must be configured on both sides - client and server - so that the connection is allowed. Otherwise, add the port as an exception to the firewall.

Allplan automatically finds the license server on the local network. If you have not selected a license, Allplan automatically selects the first available license.

After having installed Allplan on the clients, you can use the “License Settings” dialog box to configure license selection.

When you select this option, Allplan automatically detects a license server on the LAN. In some cases, such as VPN connections, Allplan might not be able to detect a server automatically. In this case, you can enter the server manually (see Additional server name).

Additional server name:
If “Find license server automatically” is not selected or Allplan has not automatically found a license server, you can manually enter the name or the IP address of the server. Enter only the name or the IP address of the server; do not enter a UNC path. After having entered the server name, click “Update” to see the licenses of the license server. Use semicolons to separate several server names.

Question:

I purchased a new license and received a Product Key for Allplan. However, I use earlier Allplan versions with NemSLock server in my office. How can I install Allplan 2015 or an earlier version despite the new license? How can I activate the license on NemSLock server?


Answer:

Allplan 2016 introduced a new protection system. Since then licensing has been based on CodeMeter by Wibu Systems AG. You can no longer use NemSLock server with Allplan. For running Allplan, you get a Product Key by email. Using this key, you can activate your license online.

This new license is not downward compatible. Consequently, you cannot use it for earlier Allplan versions.

If you want to install Allplan 2015 or an earlier version, use a trial license to install the version you need.

Downloading Allplan:
Make sure the Allplan version you install is always up-to-date. In other words, it should include the latest hotfixes and service releases.
You can download the current Allplan version from Allplan Connect or the FTP server.
Downloading from Allplan Connect:

1. Install Allplan with a trial license
Install Allplan. In the 'Select License Information' dialog box, choose 'Trial license for temporary use' and select the license for 'Architecture' or 'Engineering'.

Important: If you work with Workgroup Manager, select 'Different trial license' -> 'Next'. Open the Workgroup folder for your country and select the appropriate license. Then follow the instructions and install Allplan. Make sure you enter the paths correctly.


2. Use NemSLock server to request a registered license for the new seat

If you have not used a license server until now, install the license server using the trial license for NemSLock Server.

Installing NemSLock Server

  • Start the Setup program for NemSLock Server. You can find the latest Setup program on our FTP server:

  • If the service does not start automatically after Setup, select Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and start the Nemslock Server 2006 service.



Registering licenses

  • Open NemSLock 2006 Server Consoleby clicking the corresponding icon on the desktop or by selecting Start -> All Programs -> NemSLock 2006 Server -> NemSLock 2006 Server Console.
  • Switch to Moduleson the left.
  • Select one of your seats.
  • Click the Registration request (register.txt)button.
  • Click Edit.
  • Fill out all fields marked with an asterisk (*). Make sure you enter your email address correctly, because the registered license file will be sent to this address (and not to the address of the person who sent the registration request!). Click OKto confirm.
  • Click Create registration request. Windows Explorer opens and shows the register.txt file.
    If you have closed Windows Explorer, you can find the file in the program folder of NemSLock Server. If you installed the program to the path proposed, the path is
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nemetschek\NemSLock Server 2006\Programs\License.
  • Use an editor to open the new register.txt file.

You can find the entry for your seat in line @23@seat:. Change it and enter your new seat number instead. For example, if you purchased seat 08, change the entry to @23@seat: 08. Save the file.

  • You can now use all the options provided by Windows Explorer to copy the registration file to a computer with Internet connection. You can do this on the network or you can use a USB stick. You can then email the file to us.
  • Send the email with the registration request to register@nemetschek.de.
  • You will promptly receive your registered license for the new seat.



Installing licenses
Exit Allplan on all workstations.

  • Open NemSLock 2006 Server Console.
  • Click Stop serveron the left.
  • Switch to Moduleson the left.
  • Click Browse and select the registered license file.
  • Click Install license file.
  • After this, you can start the server again by clicking Start server.



Note:

If you purchased several new licenses, you have to generate and send a separate registration request for each seat. Just repeat the steps described above. You will then receive a registered license file for each seat. You must install each file.

How can I move NemSLock License Server to a new server?



Answer:

If you want to run NemSLock 2006 Server on a different or new server, you first need to render the license ineffective. For this, you still require the old server. After this, you need to contact Nemetschek Allplan Systems GmbH in order to activate the license for the new server.

As soon as you return the license, the status of the existing license is set to trial for 48 hours; then it will expire.

Note:Transfer the license to the new server while the old server is still available.

Do the following:

  • At the new server:install NemSLock 2006 Server with the temporary license files provided with the program.
  • At the clients:Exit Allplan on all workstations.
  • At the old server:return the license(s). Open NemSLock 2006 Server Console, click "Stop server", switch to "Modules" and click "Transfer license permanently". Then select "Next" and "Create". Click the "Send" button to send the .hwchs file you just created to "register@nemetschek.de" (provided an email program is installed and configured on this server). Otherwise, click "Browse" to open the folder with the .hwchs file in Windows Explorer. Now you can use any computer to send this file to the address mentioned above.
    Finally, click "Start server". The existing licenses are valid for two more days.
  • At the clients:for the time being the clients can continue to work with the old license server.
  • At the new server:After a few minutes, our server will send you an email confirming that the licenses have been returned. Now you can generate registration requests for all licenses. Next, install the licenses.
  • At the clients:Now you can switch the clients one after the other to the new server. To do this, open the License Manager by clicking Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek Softlock 2006 -> License Manager.




Tip:

To transfer the existing users to the new server, back up the Users.mcf file, which you can find in the program folder of NemSLock 2006 Server, and copy this file to the new server after the installation. Prior to copying the file, stop the "NemSLock Server 2006" Windows service, copy the file to the program folder and start this service again.

Question:
I purchased a new license and received a Product Key for Allplan. However, I work with an earlier Allplan version. How can I install and license Allplan 2015 or an earlier version despite the new license?


Answer:

Allplan 2016 introduced a new protection system. Since then licensing has been based on CodeMeter by Wibu Systems AG. You can no longer use Softlock (NemSLock) or hardlocks with Allplan. For running Allplan, you get a Product Key by email. Using this key, you can activate your license online.

This new license is not downward compatible. Consequently, you cannot use it for earlier Allplan versions.

For licensing earlier versions, you require the Client ID and CD Key. You can find this information in the delivery note or invoice. Instead of a temporary license, use the appropriate trial license to install Allplan 2015 or an earlier version. Then generate a registration request to license and activate the modules you purchased.

Note:
If you use a license server for which you purchased an additional license, please read the separate document or contact support.de@allplan.com. We will show you how to add the new license to the license server.

If you want to install Allplan 2015 or an earlier version, use a trial license to install the version you need.

Downloading Allplan:
Make sure the Allplan version you install is always up-to-date. In other words, it should include the latest hotfixes and service releases.
You can download the current Allplan version from Allplan Connect or the FTP server.

1. Install Allplan with a trial license
Install Allplan. In the 'Select License Information' dialog box, choose 'Trial license for temporary use' and select the license for 'Architecture' or 'Engineering'.

Important: If you work with Workgroup Manager, select 'Different trial license' -> 'Next'. Open the Workgroup folder for your country and select the appropriate license. Then follow the instructions and install Allplan. Make sure you enter the paths correctly.


2. Request a license registered for your computer
The trial license is valid for 30 days. It is not personalized.
Consequently, you have to enter your personal data manually when generating the registration request.
You can find the required Client ID and CD Key in the delivery note or invoice.

To generate a registration request, do the following:

Open the License Manager (Service application -> Utilities- > License -> License Manager).
Select the license entry for your seat and click 'Request license'. Please follow the instructions displayed on screen.

Note: Editing customer details requires administrator privileges. The system will issue an appropriate message. Close NemSLock License Manager and start the Services application again. To do this, click the Services desktop icon with the right mouse button and select 'Run as administrator' on the shortcut menu.


Enter the necessary details:
The Client IDhas eight zeros (00000000) and the CD Keyhas eight capital F's (FFFFFFFF).

For the Client ID, enter your customer number. You can find your customer number in the letteror delivery notethat came with Allplan.
For the CD Key, enter your CD Key, which you can also find in the letter or delivery note. Make sure you use small letters and capital letters accordingly.

Note:You can find the Client ID and CD Key at top left in the delivery note. The CD Keyusually consists of the numbers 0 to 9 and the capital letters A to F.


Fill out all the fields. Make sure you enter your email address correctly, because registered licenses and replies to status queries of license will be sent to the address you specify here.
Click Next >

For the seat, change the number 94 to the license you purchased, for example, 02, 03 or 04.
Specify how to send the registration file and click Next >.

Start email program ...
The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens your default email program. The program automatically attaches the registration file to the email and enters register (please no spam) @ (please no spam) nemetschek.defor the address.

Save the registration file ...
The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens the folder with the registration file in Windows Explorer. Now you can use all the options provided by Windows Explorer: for example, you can attach the file to an email, copy it to a computer with Internet access and so on.

In addition, you can see the data that were written to the registration file.

  1. Click Finish.
  2. Click Close to exit NemSLock License Manager.

You will receive a reply by email within a few minutes. This email provides information on the registration process and usually includes the registered license file.

Note: The registered license file is generated by an automated system. Consequently, any additional comments in incoming emails are not read.


3. Installing the license file
Shortly after we received the registration request, we will send you the final license file to the email address you specified in the registration request.
Install this license file as follows:

  • Save the license file to any folder on the hard disk.
    If the license comes as a zip file, extract it.
  • Next, install the license by double-clicking the license file ("customer#_seat.nslock").
    Confirm the dialog box.
  • As an alternative, you can also use License Manager to install the license file (Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager).
    Click "Install - Install license" and then "Browse..." to select the license.
    Click "Finish" to complete the installation process.
  • Your registered license is displayed in the License Manager. Clear the check box for the trial license (for example, seat 94 or 98). Make sure your registered license is the only license that is selected.




Performance problems in Allplan BCM 2013

Upgrading Allplan


After you have upgraded the license, open the License Manager by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager.
Select only an available license for Allplan 2015 in the License Manager (displayed as Allplan (30) by an older version of License Manager).
Upgrade Allplan to version 2015.
Select “Existing license file” when Setup prompts you for the license. The license driver is installed afterwards.
Then Setup checks whether you have selected a license for Allplan 2015. If this is so, Setup continues and installs Allplan 2015.
If there are problems with the existing license during the upgrade, you can also use your current temporary client license.
If you haven't your latest license available you can download it from connect.allplan.com. After login choose license management under Profile.
Then switch the clients to the license server and select only the new license from the license server.

Switching the license server from hardlock to NemSLock

How to install NemSLock Server

  • Start the Setup program for NemSLock Server.
  • Select one of the temporary license files for NemSLock Server. These licenses are valid for 30 days. However, each license includes only one seat of each configuration purchased. The full number of seats purchased will be available to you as soon as you have installed the registered licenses (see below). If you purchased a configuration for one seat only, you will, of course, receive only one temporary license.
  • If you received several license files, use the Server Console to install these additional licenses as described in the section entitled "How to install licenses".



How to register licenses

  • Open NemSLock 2006 Server Console by clicking the corresponding icon on the desktop or by selecting Start -> All Programs -> NemSLock 2006 Server -> NemSLock 2006 Server Console.
  • Click "Modules" on the left.
  • Select the seat you want to register. If your license includes configurations for several seats, you must send a separate registration request for each seat. You will then receive a registered license file for each seat. You must install each file.
  • Click the "Registration request (register.txt)" button.
  • Click "Edit".
  • Fill out all fields marked with an asterisk (*). Make sure you enter your email address correctly, because the registered license file will be sent to this address (and not to the address of the person who sent the registration request!). Click OK to confirm.
  • Click "Create registration request". Windows Explorer opens and shows the register.txt file. If this window is closed, you can find this file in the program folder of NemSLock Server. If you installed the program to the path proposed, the path is:

  • Now you can use all the options provided by Windows Explorer to copy the registration file to a computer with Internet access on the network. Alternatively, you can also use an USB stick. You can then email this file to us.

How to install licenses

How to set up users (optional)

  • predefined user ALLis created automatically. If there is no other user, each user is given the privileges of the user ALL. By default, this user can use all licenses but cannot check out any licenses. By double-clicking the user, you can change the user's privileges.
  • predefined user ALLallows all users to use licenses. In order to do this, the users must be able to access the server. You do not need to create individual user profiles until you want to assign specific rights to individual users or limit access to selected users. predefined user ALL. If you want to work only with individual users, you should deactivate the predefined user ALL by revoking the user's right to use licenses.
  • predefined user ALL has administrator privileges unless another user is created and appointed as the administrator. As soon as you have appointed an administrator, ALL no longer has administrator privileges.
  • You can enter users in the “Users.mcf” file. predefined user ALL has administrator privileges again. In addition, each user can once again administer the license server using the console.
  • The administrator user is not a special user. If there are several administrator users, only one administrator user can start the console for this license server at any one time.
  • If you are setting up users without giving administrator privileges to anyone, the program will ask you whether you want to appoint yourself as the administrator.


You can also specify a domain (user authentication for Windows server). However, this is not mandatory. If you do not specify a domain, the program uses the Windows user name for each user.

The program writes the user accounts and the associated access rights as ASCII text to the users.mcf file.

You can find this file in the \Programs folder of the NemSLock Server installation. You cannot rename, delete or move this file. If the program can no longer connect to this file, you must exit NemSLock Server, restart it and enter all users again from scratch. predefined user ALLis retained.

  • Use one of the nslock license files you received to install the clients. Do not use the trial license or the license server license. It is irrelevant which of the client licenses you use, as the actual license will come from the license server later.
  • You do not need to register the clients.
  • When switching from Hardlock to NemSLock (server), you need to update the client using a nslock license file.


After having installed the client, you need to switch to the license server:

  • Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager
  • If the license server window is hidden, click "Server" at the bottom. It is a good idea to lock this window. All you need to do is click the drawing pin icon.
  • Enter the computer name or IP address of the license server in the empty box. Then click the "Update” icon to the right.
  • Now the user can select one of the seats provided. Click "Close" to complete the configuration. Now you can start Allplan.
  • After having successfully connected to the license server, clear the check boxes for the trial licenses in the area at the top.


Notes:

  • If a user selects several configurations for a seat and starts Allplan, the license server will provide the required licenses; in other words, starting Allplan once might require two licenses. Consequently, fewer licenses are available to other users.
  • Clients communicate with the server by TCP/IP via port 10977. So you need to configure the firewall accordingly.
  • The license server and the licenses are downward compatible; they can be used in conjunction with older Allplan versions.



How to return the dongle
Return the dongle as agreed. As soon as we have received the dongle, we will send you the unlimited server licenses by email. Use the Server Console to install these licenses on the license server as described in "How to install licenses".

Error LocalDataPath exceeds maximum length of 80 characters

Response:

For the use of Allplan Share, a defined path for the "LocaldataPath" is used for the temporary storage of the project data to be edited. Since Allplan 2021, a default setting has been made that the LocaldataPath should always be in the Windows user. However, for customers who place their users on the server or in the cloud, the problem arises that 80 characters are exceeded. There is a possibility to change this path to local by creating a registry entry.

Notice:

The procedure described below is carried out at your own risk.
Questions about this should definitely be clarified before practical implementation.
Always make a copy of a file before making changes to it.
Before changing registry entries, create a backup of the registry key to be modified by exporting the key in the registry editor under File->export....
We recommend that this work be carried out by an experienced technician.


Proceed as follows:

Be sure to close Allplan before making the change so that no data loss or errors can occur.

1. Create a new folder on a local drive C: or D: of the computer used for Allplan with the name "Local data" and the subfolder "Allplan" (e.g. C:\Local data\Allplan) .
2. In Windows, as administrator, start the Windows Registry Editor (Start-> Run-> Regedit).
3. In the registry, open the key of your version in the left column:

  • 2014-1 and later: If the latest version of License Manager is installed (file version 1. 0. 26. 153 or later, see License Manager- Options- System), you can also select several licenses. If one of the selected licenses is currently being used by someone else, the program will automatically select the next available license.
  • Clients communicate with the server by TCP/IP via port 10977. So you need to configure the firewall accordingly.
  • The license server and the licenses are downward compatible; they can be used in conjunction with older Allplan versions.

If you want to switch from Allplan 2018/2019/2020 to Allplan 2021, you have three basic installation options.

1. New installation

Allplan 2021 is installed in a new folder. Any existing installations of Allplan (2020 or older) are not affected. No data and settings are transferred to the new installation.

The following options are available for transferring data later:

Uninstall Allplan 2021 and then upgrade Allplan 2018/2019/2020.
Integrating the data by hand (administrator knowledge required).

2. New installation with data copy from version

Allplan 2021 is installed in a new folder. Any existing installations of Allplan (2020 or older) are not affected. The office standard (\std), projects (\prj) and user data (\usr) can be automatically copied from an existing version 2018/2019/2020 to the new installation folder.
In this way, you can create a duplicate dataset if necessary: all projects, standards and resources can be used in both Allplan 2021 and 2018/2019/2020. This allows you to test the transition to the new version in real life, while the existing Allplan installation remains fully functional.
Note, however, that this method of working should avoid parallel processing of data in both installations, as the subsequent merging is time-consuming.

2a. Continuation of new installation with data copy from version

This option is available if a new installation with data copy has already been performed on another computer accessing the same data server and therefore the data has already been transferred.

3. Upgrade with data transfer from version 2018/2019/2020

Allplan 2021 is installed in an existing folder. The existing installation of Allplan 2018/2019/2020 is converted to Allplan 2021 and all important settings are transferred (see also Limitations for Data Transfer). Allplan 2018/2019/2020 is then no longer available.
Any existing installations older than Allplan 2018 are not affected.


Network Installations:

For network installations (shared 'central file storage folder'), only one main release version can be used - all workstations must be brought to Allplan 2021. Before starting the installation, make sure that all workstations have upgrade authorization. A mixed installation of different main versions is not technically approved. Complications that may arise are not covered by the maintenance contracts.

During the upgrade, no workstation may be running any version 2020, 2019 or 2018.

In case of an installation with Workgroupmanager all workstations must be checked in during the upgrade.




Data Conversion:

Data from older Allplan versions must be converted to version 2021. This happens automatically for projects opened in Allplan 2021. For instructions on how to convert all projects at once, click here:

Nvidia Optimus system

Question:

How can Allplan detect the Nvidia Optimus system correctly?



Answer:

Every time Allplan starts, it checks which graphics card is available to the graphics engine (hardware-based graphics accelerator for designing in Allplan). If there is a hybrid chip set such as the Optimus system, Allplan can choose between the integrated graphics card (not suitable for 3D applications) and the "real" graphics card that meets the requirements. As the integrated graphics card does not meet the system requirements, Allplan starts in GDI+ mode. In this mode the entire calculation of the on-screen display is diverted to the processor, which considerably increases the computation time as particularly older processors have problems with large volumes of data. However, this also applies to some series of current processors.

General procedure

Please make sure that Allplan 2012-1 is installed as earlier versions do not provide a routine for detecting the Optimus system.

To inform the graphics engine of the Optimus system, do the following:

Start by downloading the latest Nvidia graphics card driver, which you can find at the following link:

Install the driver with administrator privileges and restart the computer after the installation.

Switch off vertical synchronization in the Nvidia Control Panel:

Click on the desktop with the right mouse button -> NVIDIA Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> Global Settings -> Basic Profile.

You can find vertical synchronization at the bottom. Set "Vertical Synchronization" from "Use the 3D application setting" to "Off". To save the settings, click "Apply". Close the Nvidia Control Panel.

When running Windows 7, you need to set the Windows Power Options to "High performance". Open the Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options -> Select a power plan, Show additional plans -> High performance and close the Control Panel.


Now you have configured the Optimus system and Windows for Allplan 2012 and the graphics engine uses the Nvidia graphics card.


Note:

The "High performance" power option applies to the entire system. This may affect battery life. When working on site or out of the office, you are advised to set the power option back to "Balanced" or "Power saver" to prolong battery life. This increases computation time as the system addresses the processor, memory and graphics card at slower clock rates to save power.
